Community and Engagement PROJECTS

Pobl Tir Môr are involved in lots of exciting and innovative community and sustainability projects across Pembrokeshire.

Sea Changers Workshops

We’ve been busy delivering our Sea Changers workshops with pupils from Golden Grove School/Ysgol Gelli Aur and Monkton Priory School and what an amazing time it’s been!
Together, we learned all about waste and recycling, discovered the incredible marine life of the Pembrokeshire Coast with Celtic Deep, and tasted seaweed while learning about plastic-free alternatives with Câr-Y-Môrr.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the week possible:
Sea-Changers – for funding the workshops
Tanyard Youth Project – for providing such a brilliant space
The VC Gallery Pembroke Dock – for lending projectors and screens
Foundry House, Pembroke – for providing chairs and equipment
It’s been full of learning, laughter, and inspiration helping young people connect with the sea and understand how we can all play a part in protecting it.

Seeds of Hope

Seeds of Hope has Sprouted!
A collaborative project between the Pobl Tir Mor and The VC Gallery, Pembroke Dock.
Nothing could inspire more confidence in a future of strength and resilience than the incredible group who took part. It was a privilege to witness everyone’s enthusiasm to learn, share knowledge, and connect with the natural world through the seeds we foraged locally.
As identification and curation got underway, our collective knowledge grew hugely — along with our appreciation of what surrounds us.

Pride and Tide – A Free Community Surfing Day

Pobl Tir Môr, in collaboration with Pembrokeshire Pride and Blue Horizons CIC, are delighted to be hosting a free Community Surfing Day at Broad Haven North on Saturday 13th September.

The day is all about bringing people together, celebrating inclusivity, and creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone in our community to connect. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have tried surfing before, this is a fantastic opportunity to get into the sea, try something new, and share the experience with others.

Surfing sessions are free but spaces are limited — so if you’d like to take part, please register in advance via this link: https://bit.ly/pridetide

But it’s not just about the surfing!

Join us for a chat, soak up the beach atmosphere, learn more about Pembrokeshire Pride, and enjoy an ice cream by the sea.

This event is funded by the Mid and South West Wales Community Cohesion Team, and is part of our shared commitment to creating inclusive opportunities for people from all backgrounds to come together and connect in Pembrokeshire.

Connecting People with Nature

In June 2025, Pobl Tir Môr received £1,000 from the WWF Cymru Community Fund to run a series of free nature walks starting from the VC Gallery in Pembroke Dock.

Each walk was led by a different local expert and planned in partnership with a co‑production group made up of VC Gallery service users and local residents.
The walks explored the nature in and around the VC Gallery, including a section of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the Pembroke River.

The walks also focused on accessibility and used the lived experience of participants to suggest improvements to the route.

If you are interested in helping us to improve access and to green and blue spaces or would like to get involved please let us know.

Pembrokeshire by Pobl Tir Môr and Our Approach to Stakeholder Analysis

In Autumn 2022, Dilys Burrell Projects (now Pobl Tir Môr CIC) were chosen by WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Cymru to do an analysis of stakeholders in Pembrokeshire. We also made recommendations to WWF Cymru about how they could involve people in Pembrokeshire in a potential new project in the area.

The project brought us together as a team for the first time, and gave us the opportunity to spend some time thinking deeply about what good community involvement might look like. As part of the project, we developed a ‘long list’ of stakeholders across Pembrokeshire, reviewed other relevant stakeholder engagement activities, and looked into the lessons learned from projects such as Summit to Sea.

The report drew on our extensive knowledge of Pembrokeshire and its people, and incorporated our key principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. We have continued to support WWF Cymru as part of their work in Pembrokeshire, and have produced public summaries of elements of our 2022 work for them.

Our Approach to Stakeholder Analysis

Marine Energy Engagement Toolkit – Focus Groups for Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum

Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum asked us to help them test a ‘marine energy engagement toolkit’ with people from Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock, and tourism businesses in the Autumn of 2024.

We brought together a broad spectrum of people from Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and local tourism businesses (31 in total).

The Marine Energy Engagement Toolkit we were asked to provide feedback on can be accessed here:

Marine Energy Engagement Plan (MEEP) – Communications Toolkit – Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum (PCF)

The project was funded by the UK Government and the Welsh Government’s Local Places for Nature: Marine and Coastal Capacity Scheme, administered by the WCVA.

Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum are looking for funding to be able to make the changes suggested by the focus group participants.

Accessible Local Veg Box Project

We are working together with Underwood Farm in Lamphey to make their veg box scheme more accessible to a wider range of people by:

  • Subsidising veg boxes to reduce cost.
  • Making videos and info cards about what veg is box and how to use it.
  • Developing Veg Box recipe ideas.
  • Learning about organic sustainable food and veg growing.

Some examples of our first videos can be seen by following the links below.

This project began in 2023 and received funding from the Pembrokeshire Local Food Partnership initially and then further funding from the UK Government funded Doing the Small Things Fund administered by PAVS in 2024.

We are currently funding subsidies for a small number of veg boxes ourselves, and would like to access further funding to develop this project in the near future.

Please get in touch if you are interested in being part of this project.

Stackpole Lakes Conversations – The National Trust

Pobl Tir Môr is delighted to be working with the National Trust to help them understand and appreciate people’s connection with Stackpole Lakes (also known as Bosherston Lily Ponds).

We undertook a first phase of community engagement work as part of the Stackpole Lakes project in 2024. Thank you to everyone who took part in the process. This information is now being used as part of a National Trust options appraisal process.

We are due to support the National Trust with a second phase of engagement for the project, watch this space for further updates.

This has been a fantastic learning experience, it has been lovely to meet so many people who are passionate about the lakes and to hear so many individual stories about why we love the area, the nature and the history of this amazing place.

We are now busy collating all the survey information and will be putting together a report for the National Trust.

If you didn’t get a chance to share your thoughts this time then please keep an eye out on our Facebook page for links to further engagement opportunities related to the Stackpole Lakes in the future.

Cymbrogi Workshops

Cymbrogi (an old Celtic word meaning ‘Companions of the Heart’) is an inspiring alternative education project, based on a 12 acre site at Lawrenny, overlooking the waters of the Cleddau Estuary.

Cymbrogi CIC aquired funding through the Landfill Disposal Tax Communities Scheme in 2024 and we helped them to design and deliver a programme of workshops and activities supporting people from different backgrounds and generations to engage in hands on and interesting learning opportunities aimed at waste minimisation i.e. reducing waste to landfill.

Young people and community members attending these workshops learnt about the 5 Rs – Reduce/Refuse/Re-Use/Repair and Recycle – whilst having the opportunity to be immersed in a beautiful natural setting, learning about the site’s ecosystems – and hopefully gaining some additional wellbeing benefits too.

CWMPAS Preseli Cares – Project Evaluation 2024

Pobl Tir Môr evaluated the Preseli Cares project on behalf of Cwmpas in 2024. We were specifically asked to capture and present people’s ideas and solutions, in their first-person voices, for community led care.

We listened sensitively to people’s own ‘stories’, and discussed their ideas on how to solve social care problems which emerged from the project. The information gathered from the evaluation research was presented in a series of visuals and videos.

Open To All 2024

Pobl Tir Môr helped the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, and Visit Pembrokeshire, to organise the launch of their ‘Open to All’ project in March 2024 and a Autumn Conference in October 2024.

The launch of this exciting project was held at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Milford Haven and hosted over 150 people. The Autumn Conference was held at Llys Y Fran.

The Open to All resource hub can be accessed on the Visit Pembrokeshire website.

Visual Note Taking for PACTO Launch 2024

Pobl Tir Môr attended the Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations (PACTO) launch event at Haverhub to provide a live ‘visual notetaking’ service.

Our visual note taking service brings together the artistic skills of Dilys Burrell and Phoebe Lester to capture a visually compelling yet fully informative record of the key speeches, speakers and moments throughout the day.

CWBR Youth Graffiti Art Project Coordination for PLANED

Dilys and Ben provided support for a Graffiti Art Project funded by the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner as part of PLANED’s Community Well-Being and Resilience Youth Project.

The CWBR Youth Project focuses on connecting young people across Pembrokeshire with town and community councils and helping them to take a more active role in democracy in our county. This is a hugely important aim. However, keeping young people enthusiastic, making democracy relevant to them, and giving them a sense of control and voice can be significant challenges.

By thinking outside the box and employing the creative skills of ‘Lloyd the Graffiti,’ the young people made large-scale graffiti artworks that represented their communities and highlighted the things that they felt needed to improve.

Relationships between councillors and young people were made and strengthened by working together in safe spaces, and many people in positions of power in Pembrokeshire have pledged to help realise the requests of the young people.

This project clearly aligned with Pobl Tir Môr’s aims of making good things happen in our communities, and we were able to contribute our organisational and project skills, as well as our experience of working with both councillors and young people.

Evaluation of the Open to All project for Visit Pembrokeshire

Dilys worked closely with Visit Pembrokeshire and their project manager to complete an evaluation of the UK Government’s Community Renewal Fund funded Open to All project in 2022. Dilys developed a Theory of Change for the project, which aimed to improve accessibility in the tourism sector, and worked alongside disability and community groups to complete the evaluation. Project partners included the RNIB, Pembrokeshire People First and the Sign and Share Club. The evaluation was used to inform a successful Shared Prosperity Fund funding bid in 2023, which Dilys helped to write.

Experiences for All research for Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

Dilys was chosen by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to complete an Experiences for All research project in 2020. The project involved desk research, interviews, survey work and focus groups and resulted in a list of recommendations being made to the Authority to help improve access to the National Park for people from all backgrounds. Recommendations from the report are being implemented by the authority and the research helped reaffirm Dilys’ understanding of the importance of the outdoors for well-being and the need for access to nature to be equitable.

Photography for National Theatre Wales – TEAM Pembrokeshire

Since 2018, Ben has regularly been employed as an official event photographer by National Theatre Wales – TEAM Pembrokeshire. This opportunity has given him a good insight into doing community engagement differently. By putting on ‘performance parties’ that utilise music, film, theatre and other visual performances, NTW-TEAM are able to appeal to different demographics, especially those who may not come to ‘traditional’ consultation meetings, and help break down barriers between decision makers and the community. At Pobl Tir Môr we take a keen interest in innovation and doing things differently and try to integrate them into our work wherever possible.

Marine Energy / Floating Offshore Wind

Louise has always felt passionately about using Wales’ significant natural renewable resources to provide economic, environmental and social benefit to Wales. Her career began in wind farm development in mid-Wales, before moving closer to home at a time of growing awareness around Pembrokeshire’s vast marine energy resource. Louise spent 6 years supporting the industry helping to grow a small Pembrokeshire focused project into the pan-Wales organisation Marine Energy Wales. She also helped to inspire the next generation of sustainable energy advocates through the delivery of the renewable energy component of the geography curriculum in a local secondary school. As a team, we are excited about the prospect of marine energy, including Floating Offshore Wind for our local area. The industry could unlock clean energy for millions of homes, as well as generating new employment and investment into the area and delivering significant social value for communities. As a Pobl Tir Môr team, we look forward to supporting the industry as a whole as it develops, ensuring the positive impacts for the local area are maximised.
